Setting up of a Task Force for the Ministerial Conference on the 3R Initiative and the Launch of the 3R Conference Website

November 2, 2004

A Task Force for the Ministerial Conference on the 3R Initiative, headed by Minister of the Environment, attended by directors of bureaus and departments, will be set up within the Ministry of the Environment on November 4, 2004 in order to implement necessary preparatory tasks systematically.

At the G8 Summit held at Sea Island, USA in June 2004, the 3R Initiative was agreed. This initiative aims at establishing a sound material-cycle society through practicing the 3Rs (reduce, reuse and recycle) of wastes from a global perspective. This initiative is advocated by Prime Minister Koizumi, and it was agreed that a ministerial meeting to formally launch the initiative be held in the spring of 2005 in Japan. The 3R Initiative ministerial conference will be held in Tokyo on April 28 through 30, hosted by Minister of the Environment.

Along with the setting up of the Task Force, a website of the Ministerial Conference on the 3R Initiative will be established aiming at providing information on the Ministerial Conference, 3Rs activities in Japan.
