Tsunami Memorial Park NAKANOHAMA

photo of Tsunami Memorial Park NAKANOHAMA
Tsunami Memorial Park NAKANOHAMA was established as a memorial park that captures the remnants of a natural disaster with the double objective of reminding people of the threats posed by nature as well as preserving the memory of a past disaster for future generations.
In addition to disaster debris from toilets and outdoor kitchens, the memorial park also features a 13m high hill that is located in the center of the park and named "Tenbo-no-Oka" (the Hill of View). The latter allows visitors to gain a visual perspective of the height of the tsunami that struck the area while also getting a sense of the devastating force of tsunamis. It also stresses the importance of rapidly seeking refuge on higher ground in the event of a tsunami.
