These waters extend from those in the vicinity of Cape Kodomari on the northern Tsugaru Peninsula through Minmaya Bay, also on the northern Tsugaru Peninsula, to the entrance to Aomori Bay. These waters are home to connected seaweed bed ecosystems. The terrain from the Kodomari Peninsula to Cape Tappi is covered by connected natural shores, rich in coastal flora (Kato, personal communication). The numerous pebble beaches seen in the vicinity of Cape Tappi are habitat for diverse flat-headed goby and Clariger cosmurus (Yamada et al., 2009), as well as being important stopping point for migratory birds (Kato, Nakaoka, personal communication).
