These are the waters in the vicinity of the Oga Peninsula. The Oga Peninsula is home to the largest seaweed beds in the northern Sea of Japan. They feature a diverse range of species including wakame, agar, Sargassum pallidum, Coccophora langsdorfii, and others (Ministry of the Environment, 2001). In these good seaweed beds are spawning grounds of sailfin sandfish and others (Ministry of the Environment, 2001; Sakurai, personal communication).
