These are the waters in the vicinity of Tobishima Island in Yamagata Prefecture. Tobishima Island has the richest assortment of seaweed species on the Yamagata Prefecture coast because it is more strongly affected by warm currents than the prefecture's mainland coast. Here grow Chorda filum more than 6 m long, along with many southern species, as well as Neodilsea yendoana, a common northern species (Ministry of the Environment, 2001). Also here is a breeding ground for the black-tailed gull, a natural monumen species.
