These waters extend about 15 km to the northeast off the coast of Mishima Island in the city of Hagi, Yamaguchi Prefecture. In these waters, Octocorallia coral grow at relatively deep depths. In addition, although somewhat removed from these waters, there are shallows known as Hachirigase with depths averaging 30-80 m approximately 20 km to the north of Mishima, or roughly 5 km north of these waters, which are highly productive waters known as good fishing grounds for sea bream, chicken grunt, and blue-skinned fish.
