These are the coastal waters in the vicinity of Chikuzen Oshima and Jinoshima Islands off the coast of the city of Munakata in Fukuoka Prefecture. Seaweed beds have developed in these waters, where large-scale communities of Ecklonia stolonifera are found (Ministry of the Environment, 2001).
