These are the waters in the vicinity of the inner part of Kinko Bay in Kagoshima Prefecture. The mouth of the Amori River and its vicinity is a healthy habitat for common Orient clam, native to Japan. Also common here are the bivalves Psammotaea minor, Moerella rutila, and parasitic Peregrinamor ohshimai. Lovenia elongata live here in high densities as well. Macrophthalmus abbreviatus are common too. At the Shigetomi coast are some natural tidal mud flats that remain in Kagoshima Bay, with highly diverse species of benthic organisms (Ministry of the Environment, 2001). In addition, there are hydrothermal vents and seep communities (Fujikura et al., 2008).
