These waters extend from the Shishikui Coast in Kochi and Tokushima Prefectures and include Kagoi Island, Tanabae, Takegashima Island, Kazura Island, and others. The seaweed beds of the sea extending in front of Shishikui include a mixture of various species of Sargassum fulvellum, as well as beds of sargassum, Ecklonia cava, Ecklonia kurome, and others. They have a high degree of biodiversity. This also is habitat for agar. These waters also include expansive coral reefs, and coral reefs including rare species are distributed at Awa Takegashima (Ministry of the Environment, 2001). In addition, the seaweed beds are an important feeding ground for the green turtle (Kamezaki et al., 2013; Ishihara et al., 2011).
