These are the waters in the vicinity of the mouth of the Kurosegawa River in Hiro, within the city of Kure, Hiroshima Prefecture. These waters are habitat to the zoogeographically important Gymnogobius cylindricus (an endangered species), distributed only in very limited places in the Seto Inland Sea and the Ariake Sea (Suzuki et al., 2006; Shigeta, 2008) .
