These are the waters in the vicinity of the mouth of the Kakogawa River. The river-mouth tidal mud flats in the vicinity of the Kakogawa River mouth is a place where common reed beds are well preserved. Despite its location near the major cities of Kyoto, Osaka, and Kobe, it is home to rare species of crab such as Uca lactea lactea, Clistocoeloma sinensis, and Deiratonotus cristatus as well as rare conches such as Cerithidea djadjariensis, Cerithidea cingulata, Iravadia sakaguchii, and Neripteron cornucopia live here (Ministry of the Environment, 2001).
