Characteristics A separate window opensReferences

These waters include the vicinities of the mouths of the Kumozu, Kushida, Atago, Kongo, and Harai rivers in southern Ise Bay. The Kumozu River mouth is visited by snipe and plover species, with relatively high numbers of species and populations in the autumn migration season. Here has been recorded at least 1% of the minimum estimated population of grey-tailed tattler and dunlin and at least 0.25% of the minimum estimated population of the Eurasian oystercatcher. Far Eastern curlew and Latham's snipe have been recorded here as well. The vicinities of the mouths of the Kushida, Atago, Kongo, and Harai rivers are home to abundant saltwater marshlands and diverse topography as well. They are inhabited by abundant conch endemic to saltwater marshlands (Ellobium chinense, Laemodonta exaratoides, Laemodonta octanflata, Neripteron cornucopia, and others). For this reason, the tidal mudflats from the mouth of the Atago River to the mouth of the Kushida River are visited by snipe and plover species, with relatively high numbers of species and populations in the migration seasons of spring and fall. Here has been recorded at least 1% of the minimum estimated population of grey-tailed tattler and Numenius phaeopus and at least 0.25% of the minimum estimated population of dunlin. Far Eastern curlew and common redshank also have been recorded here (Ministry of the Environment, 2001).
