These are the shallow waters of Sendai Bay. The waters in Sendai Bay at depths of 30-50 m are important waters used as spawning grounds by various fish. Spawning grounds of the spotted plaice are in the waters 100-150 m deep centered on Sendai Bay but extending to Fukushima Prefecture, while those of the Pacific cod are in the sand and mud of the waters of Sendai Bay 10 m in depth (Sakurai & Hattori, 1996), those of the marbled sole are in the waters 30-50 m deep, those of the Japanese sand lance in the gravelly waters 30-50 m deep from Soso to Sendai Bay, those of the bastard halibut mainly in gravelly waters up to 50 m deep, those of Kareius bicoloratus in waters 30-50 m deep, and those of Oratosquilla oratoria in waters up to 20 m deep (Japan Association for Promotion of a Prosperous Sea (Zenkoku Yutakana umidukuri kyougikai (NAPPS), 2008; Miyagi Prefecture, 2008; Awata, 2013; Miyagi Prefecture Fisheries Technology Institute, 2013).
