Characteristics A separate window opensReferences

These are the waters in the vicinity of the mouths of the Natori River and the Abukuma River. They make up the mouth zone of these two rivers. In Hiroura (on the south side of the Natori River) are collections of tidal mud flats and beds of common reed, well suited as habitat for benthic organisms. This is an important habitat for many-formed cerith. Torinoumi (on the south side of the (Abukuma River) is habitat to Batillaria attramentaria, many-formed cerith, Nuttallia olivacea, ragworm, Japanese littleneck clams, and others. In addition, the Idoura Lagoon in the area of the mouth of the Natori River (on the north side of the river mouth) is an important habitat for paddle-footed annelids and crabs (Ministry of the Environment, 2001).
