Characteristics A separate window opensReferences

These waters are located to the west of Cape Soya and in the vicinity of the cape. As with Cape Noshappu, in the waters in the vicinity of the cape, seaweed beds and seagrass beds unfold over a wide area from the sea extending in front of Tomiiso on the west side through the sea extending in front of Soya and the sea extending in front of Chishiya to the east, making this a highly productive place. Sandy shores extend along the shores of Soya Bay, and although the Soya Road traverses the coastal area it retains a highly natural state. Migrations of spotted seals and Steller sea lions can be seen here, as can the upstream migration of Hucho perryi in the river mouth. Spreading out toward the inland on the west side are the Onuma and Megumenuma wetlands, the Koetoi River, and other natural features.
