"6th Workshop on Environmental Monitoring of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) in East Asian Countries" to be held November 18-20 in Tokyo

The Ministry of the Environment of Japan (MOE) will hold the above-mentioned workshop from the 18th to the 20th of November, 2008, in Tokyo (venue: Tokyo International Exchange Center, Aomi, Koto-ku, Tokyo). It is anticipated that approximately 30 government officials and/or experts from 11 countries (Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam) in the East Asia sub-region and experts from UNEP, AMAP, UNU and NOWPAP will participate in the workshop.
The discussions at the workshop will cover, but not be limited to: (1) review of the FY2007 results from the POPs Monitoring Project in East Asian Countries; (2) plans for the POPs Monitoring Project in East Asian Countries in FY2008 and beyond, including selection of super-sites; and (3) exchanging views on current activities and future plans for the compiling of POPs monitoring dates in the participating countries so as to work towards their more effective evaluation, as required by the regulations developed at the Stockholm Convention.
