Cabinet Decision on the Waste Treatment Facilities Development Program

The new Waste Treatment Facilities Development Program is to be approved by the Cabinet on March 25, 2008.

Waste Treatment Facilities Development Program, formulated every five years based on the regulation of the Waste Management and Public Cleansing Law, establishes the goals and outlines of the projects related to the development of waste treatment facilities in Japan. The duration of the new Program will be five years from FY 2008 to FY 2012.

The new Program is in accordance with 2nd Fundamental Plan for Establishing a Sound Material-Cycle Society, which will be approved by the Cabinet on the same day. The point of the new Program is as follows:

(1) Contribution to the climate change countermeasures
(2) Promotion of the utilisation of biomass derived from wastes
(3) Stock management of the waste treatment facilities
