Environmental Dialogue between Japan and Russia Held in Tokyo

The 5th meeting of the Japan-Russia Joint Committee on Environmental Protection was held in Tokyo on April 12 and 13. Exchanges of views and information took place, concerning environmental policies in the two countries, and the cooperation in addressing global and regional environmental issues of common concern, including climate change and the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development. The meeting reviewed implementation of the cooperative program for 2004-2005 and discussed a draft cooperative program for 2006-2007. This Joint Committee was established under the Japan-USSR Environmental Protection Agreement. Mr. Takeshi YAGI, Deputy Director-General, the European Affairs Bureau, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs led the Japanese Delegation and Dr. Alexander Ishikov, Director, Department of the State Environmental Policy, the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation led the Russian Delegation.
