Opinions of the Minister of the Environment on the Environmental Impact Statement for the Kasugai-Kumano-Sakurasa Land Readjustment Project

On December 20, 2006, the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) submitted the Minister's opinions on the environmental impact statement for the Kasugai-Kumano-Sakurasa Land Readjustment Project, to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, in accordance with the provisions of the Environmental Impact Assessment Law.

This project is planned to develop an area of about 110 ha in Aichi Prefecture mainly for residential use. The MOE commented on the following:

1. As the project area includes those that need to be protected such as existing schools and residences, determine the impacts of dust, noise and vibration caused by construction machines and vehicles on them, and take measures if needed.

2. Appropriately maintain the planned biotope, in order that its water area can be kept as a habitat of species to be protected.
