MOEJ selected 2 Regional Circular and Ecological Areas Projects through Decarbonization Innovation to be offered the subsidies for CO2 emission control measure projects (FY2021 and FY2020 [third supplementary budget] (additional call for applications))

The Ministry of the Environment, Japan (MOEJ), selected 2 Regional Circular and Ecological Areas Projects through Decarbonization Innovation to be offered the subsidies for CO2 emission control measure projects. The Regional Circular and Ecological Society Promotion Association, commissioned by MOEJ to execute the projects, announced the selection. One of the projects is the "project to support the creation of an independent and decentralized local energy system to improve local self-sufficiency in renewable energy and strengthen resilience," and the other one is the "project to support the creation of energy self-sufficient areas that respond to intensifying disasters."

1. Outline of subsidy projects

"Regional Circular and Ecological Areas Projects through Decarbonization Innovation" aim at creating a leading model for decarbonization. The projects' theme is "independent and decentralized local energy systems and decarbonized transportation." The projects appropriately incorporate technological and institutional innovation, and continuously support implementation efforts for model projects with funding from the private sector.

MOEJ called for the following five kinds of projects to be subsidized:

1. Project to support the creation of an independent and decentralized local energy system to improve local self-sufficiency in renewable energy and strengthen resilience

2. Project to support the creation of energy self-sufficient areas that respond to intensifying disasters (limited to a project continued from FY2020)

3. Project to promote circular economy and regional revitalization by utilizing heat from hot springs

4. Project to promote CO2 emission reductions by improving the efficiency of hot spring supply facilities

5. Project to support the creation of a decarbonized regional transportation model by utilizing automobile CASE

2. Application period

October 1, to October 29, 2021
