MOEJ selected 19 projects in the second round selection for the Equipment Renewal Subsidy Project under the FY2021 Subsidy for CO2 Emission Control Measures (Support for High-efficiency Installations for Facilities with Targets)

The Ministry of the Environment, Japan (MOEJ), started in FY2021 the implementation of Support for High-efficiency Installations for Facilities with Targets (SHIFT Program) to support the formulation of decarbonization promotion plans incorporating ambitious CO2 emission reduction targets and equipment renewals based on the decarbonization promotion plans. This time, MOEJ selected 19 projects as shown below in the second round selection for the Equipment Renewal Subsidy Project.

1. Outline of SHIFT program

The SHIFT Program aims to create leading examples of decarbonization practices at factories and workplaces, widely publicize such knowledge across the country, and contribute to achieving Japan's medium and long term greenhouse gas emission reduction targets.

It consists of the following two projects:

  1. Subsidy for projects which formulate decarbonization plans incorporating ambitious energy-related CO2 reduction targets.

  2. Subsidy for projects which reduce CO2 emissions by the introduction of high-efficiency equipment, electrification, or fuel conversion based on the decarbonization promotion plan, and which calculate the amount of emissions and retire emission allowances. (All of the 19 selected projects were selected in Subsidy (2).)

This time, MOEJ issued a second call for applications for the Equipment Renewal Subsidy Project.

2. Selection

MOEJ called for applications from September 1 to September 30, 2021, and selected the 19 projects shown below.
