Result of the second session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee to prepare a global legally binding instrument on Mercury (INC2)
The second session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee to prepare a global legally binding instrument on Mercury (INC2) was held in Chiba, Japan from Monday, January 24 to Friday, January 28, 2011.
This was the second session out of 5 sessions totally planned. At the Committee, the possible contents to be included in the treaty were discussed.
As a result of the meeting, it was agreed that (1) the UNEP Secretariat make a draft text of the treaty for the third session to be held in October 2012, taking into account the views shown by participating countries; and that (2) Japan host a diplomatic conference for adoption and signature of the treaty to be held in late 2013.
