Minamata Disease Workshop 2006

The Ministry of the Environment held the annual International Workshop at Minamata City in Kumamoto prefecture (28th Feb - 3rd Mar).

The purpose of the workshop was to share lessons learned from the Japanese experiences of the Minamata disease tragedy with environmental officials from other Asian countries so that they can make use of this opportunity for the benefit of their environmental administrative measures.

The program included lectures, study tours and discussions. All sixteen participants from 8 Asian countries (Republic of Indonesia, Republic of The Philippines, Kingdom of Thailand, Socialist Republic of Viet Num, Peoples Republic of China, Malaysia, Republic of Singapore, Republic of Korea) were impressed by the Storyteller (kataribe).
