Summary of import/ export of wastes under the Waste Management Law in 2008

The Ministry of the Environment has published a summary of export confirmations and import permissions of wastes covering January to December 2008 under the Waste Management and Public Cleansing Law. The number of export confirmations and import permissions of wastes were 33 cases and 9cases, respectively. Total amount of export and import of wastes were 762,897 tons and 1,843 tons, respectively. All of exported wastes were ash from coal fired power plants destined mainly for cement production in South Korea. Imported wastes included waste fluorescent lamps, waste dry batteries and waste photoreceptor, which were received mainly from Asian countries for the purpose of resource recovery.
