1.Background

The Ministry of the Environment, Japan (MOEJ) has convened the Asia-Pacific Seminar on Climate Change since the early 1990s in support of regional efforts to address climate change. The Seminar has been steadily growing in significance as a regional forum to promote awareness and exchange experiences on different issues of common interest for Asia-Pacific countries.

Countries in the region, have made substantial efforts to address climate change both at a national and international level. The Asia-Pacific Seminar offers an opportunity to discuss these achievements at a regional level, and increase awareness and understanding of the lessons they offer as countries continue to develop their responses to climate change. Also, the Seminar encourages international cooperation to address climate change.

This year, the main theme of the Seminar is "Good Governance for Climate & Development -Co-benefits Innovation and Integrated Adaptation to Climate Change-". We would be especially focused on discussing useful policies and measures to integrate climate change issue into development planning, tools to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of ongoing and future efforts, and opportunities offered in working on climate change, from a practical point of view, and with due consideration of specific situations of the region.

Documents from past Asia-Pacific Seminars can be found at "AP Seminar Archives".

2.Objectives

The objective of the Asia-Pacific Seminar is to provide a forum for the countries of the Asia-Pacific region, as well as international organizations working in the region, to share information and build relationships in an informal working environment. In addition to informative presentations, the seminar programme will allow ample time for questions and discussion, so that all participants can contribute and the opportunities for learning from the experiences of others will be greater.
